Let Generative AI Help You Write Test Cases, The Right Way.

As SDETs, we often spend a lot of time translating feature requirements into test cases. It gets repetitive and honestly, it's not the best use of our time.

With Generative AI, you can offload that initial draft and focus more on coverage, edge cases, and automation.

Here's a generalized, reusable prompt you can use with tools like Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini to generate detailed, structured, automation-ready test cases.

🧪 Prompt Template for SDETs: Test Case Generation Using GenAI

You are a Senior SDET working on a [mention your feature summary]. Your task is
to write a comprehensive set of test cases to validate [mention your feature
concept]. Use the following context to understand the feature.

Feature Background:
[Brief background about how the feature works or integrates with other systems]

User Story:
[The user story from the product team or requirement spec]

Acceptance Criteria:
[List of key acceptance points — functional, non-functional, edge cases, etc.]
[Add confidence thresholds, response times, supported formats, etc. as needed]

Output Format:
Provide the test cases in tabular form with these columns:
- Summary
- Description
- Preconditions
- Test Steps
- Test Data
- Expected Result
- Priority
- Automation Feasibility (Yes/No)

Include both positive and negative test cases. Cover validations, edge cases,
performance checks, and error handling.
